Aeroportos de Portugal, Espanha e França ficam fechados por causa do vulcão da Islândia

Centenas de voos transatlânticos para Portugal, Espanha e França foram suspensos, provocando um caos nos aeroportos de Porto, Barcelona e Marselha. Já os aeroportos de Madrid, Lisboa, Paris e Londres operam com restrições, dependendo da direção das cinzas do vulcão Eyjafjallajokull, que entrou em erupção no dia 14 de abril.

O aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro do Porto - norte de Portugal - e o do arquipélago atlântico dos Açores - a cerca de 1,5 mil quilômetros de Lisboa - permanecem fechados ao tráfego aéreo durante a manhã deste domingo pela nuvem de cinzas do vulcão islandês.

Segundo informou a imprensa oficial lusa, todos os voos com saída e chegada desses dois aeroportos estão cancelados e recomenda-se aos passageiros não irem até os terminais.

Porta-vozes dos Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) informaram da suspensão de mais de 60 rotas no Sá Carneiro, o segundo maior aeroporto do país e que conta com grande afluência de espanhóis, sobretudo procedentes da comunidade autônoma da Galícia.

A Navegação Aérea de Portugal (NAV Portugal) detectou ontem a nuvem de cinzas vulcânicas no espaço aéreo luso e a sua densidade obrigou a imposição de uma "área de proibição de voo" - até 35 mil pés (cerca de 10 quilômetros) - que provocou a suspensão de mais de cem rotas.

Quase 100% dos vôos já voltaram a operar na Europa. Os vôos estavam suspensos em cerca de 20 países do continente Europeu, por causa de uma nuvem de cinzas de um vulcão na Islândia.

Os voos acima de 20 mil pés estão liberados, com pequenas restrições em algumas áreas da Finlândia e do norte da Escócia. Voos transatlânticos voltaram ao normal, segundo a agência.

No entanto, a retomada dos mais de 95 mil voos cancelados nos últimos seis dias congestiona os aeroportos das principais capitais europeias, e a capacidade de absorver os atrasos é limitada. Em Londres, o tráfego aéreo era lentamente retomado nesta quarta-feira em Heathrow e nos demais aeroportos britânicos, mas autoridades advertiram que o ritmo normal levará tempo para ser restabelecido, após quase uma semana de paralisação.

Os aeroportos da BAA estão abertos e vão operar um número limitado de voos hoje (quarta-feira). Um retorno à normalidade vai precisar de tempo porque os aviões e tripulações estão fora de posição", advertiu o operador de vários aeroportos britânicos, incluindo Heathrow, o de maior tráfego internacional do mundo.

Após o anúncio do fim das restrições por parte do Serviço de Controle do Tráfego Aéreo Britânico (Nats), Heathrow reabriu no fim da noite de terça-feira e menos de uma hora depois pousou em uma das pistas o primeiro voo da companhia British Airways, procedente de Vancouver (Canadá).

França

Os dois principais aeroportos de Paris, Charles de Gaulle e Orly, garantiram nesta quarta-feira todos os voos intercontinentais, após seis dias de tráfego paralisado ou prejudicado pelas cinzas vulcânicas procedentes da Islândia.

De acordo com as autoridades do aeroporto Charles de Gaulle, o maior da França, 100% dos voos de longa distância e 90% dos trajetos de curta e média distância de todas as companhias operavam nesta quarta-feira.

No segundo aeroporto de Paris, Orly, 100% dos voos intercontinentais também estavam garantidos.

Nos dois terminais, a prioridade é repatriar milhares de franceses retidos no exterior.

"O problema é europeu. A Europa não reagiu muito bem. Será necessário ajustar algumas regras", afirmou nesta quarta-feira o ministro francês das Relações Exteriores, Bernard Kouchner.

Islândia

Na Islândia, cerca de 800 pessoas tiveram de deixar suas casas após a erupção do vulcão Eyjafjallajokul há uma semana. Os moradores viram seus campos virarem um deserto coberto por um pó fino dias atrás, mas agora começam a se preocupar com a possibilidade de que as erupções recentes acordem um vulcão ainda muito maior.

O vulcão continuará emitindo cinzas nos próximos dias, mas de forma reduzida, informou hoje a agência de Defesa Civil islandesa. A nuvem vulcânica é "bastante baixa" e não-visível para os radares, e não se espera que alcance uma altitude superior aos 20 mil pés (entre seis e sete quilômetros) durante os próximos dias, indicam as últimas previsões.

Nos dias de maior atividade do Eyjafjallajökull, a nuvem de cinzas superou os 11 mil metros de altitude e provocou graves transtornos no tráfego aéreo da Europa.

As nuvens de cinzas continuarão hoje ao sul e sudeste do vulcão. A mudança dos ventos para o nordeste, prevista para as próximas horas, fará com que também se produzam ao sudoeste, mas somente nas áreas próximas ao Eyjafjallajökull.

Os especialistas calculam que a força da erupção foi reduzida para 20% de sua máxima e uma quarta parte da qual chegou no sábado (17) passado. No entanto, eles ressaltaram que isso não indica necessariamente que a extinção da atividade seja imediata.

Prejuízos

As companhias aéreas perderam até agora cerca de US$ 1,7 bilhões [R$ 2,9 bilhões] devido às restrições impostas pelas autoridades aeronáuticas por causa da nuvem de cinzas gerada pela erupção vulcânica na Islândia, informou hoje Giovanni Bisignani, diretor-geral da Associação Internacional de Transportes Aéreos (Iata).

"Os cancelamentos de voos custaram até agora às companhias aéreas mais de US$ 1,7 bilhões e, o que é pior, a crise impactou em 29% da aviação oficial e afetou 1,2 milhão de passageiros", disse Bisignani.

Segundo ele, "a crise ofusca à do 11 de Setembro (de 2001) quando o espaço aéreo americano esteve fechado durante três dias" por causa dos atentados terroristas de então.

Bisignani disse esperar que, dessa situação, se tirasse a conclusão de que é necessário unificar o espaço aéreo europeu e que haja, além disso, o convencimento de que a aviação deve ter um lugar mais importante na agenda política internacional.

"O caos e as perdas econômicas da semana passada são um claro apelo aos líderes europeus para unificar de forma urgente o espaço aéreo europeu", ressaltou o diretor-geral da Iata.

Alemanha

Autoridades do controle aéreo alemão informaram que o espaço aéreo do país está totalmente reaberto desde às 5h de hoje (hora de Brasília). No entanto, espera-se que somente 700 voos, ou cerca da metade do número normal, aterrissem ou decolem no aeroporto de Frankfurt, o mais movimentado do país, a Fraport. A normalização das operações no país podem levar diversos dias.

Áustria

O espaço aéreo austríaco continua aberto após a permissão para retomar voos e decolagens, que entrou em vigor às 5h (0h de Brasília) da segunda-feira (19). Alguns voos com decolagem e pouso no país continuam cancelados ou sofrem atrasos.

Dinamarca

O espaço aéreo dinamarquês ficará aberto até as 6h desta quinta-feira (1h de Brasília).

Eslováquia

O espaço aéreo e os aeroportos estão abertos desde a segunda-feira (19). No entanto, a companhia Ryanair cancelou todos os voos com pouso e decolagem em Bratislava até as 11h (6h de Brasília) desta quinta-feira.

Espanha

O espaço aéreo e todos os 17 aeroportos continuam abertos.

Estônia, Letônia e Lituânia

O espaço aéreo dos três países bálticos foi reaberto na manhã de hoje. Os aeroportos de Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius e Kaunas já aceitam pousos e decolagens. Muitos voos, no entanto, foram cancelados devido às restrições em vigor em outros países europeus.

Finlândia

A autoridade de tráfego aérea finlandesa Finavia fechou o aeroporto de Helsinque nesta quarta-feira, após tê-lo reaberto poucas horas antes. A companhia aérea Finnair disse que cancelaria todos os voos domésticos e para a Europa, além das partidas de longa distância. Além de Helsinque, os aeroportos de Turku, Malmi, Lappeenranta e Mariehamn também foram fechados. A situação será reavaliada às 21h (16h em Brasília), mas espera-se que ao menos as restrições no sul do país sejam mantidas.

França

Todos os aeroportos estão abertos. Autoridades das aviação disseram que todos os voos de longa distância devem operar hoje, assim como 75% dos voos de média distância, mas alguns voos para destinos do norte da Europa ainda poderiam ser suspensos. A companhia aérea Air France / KLM disse em comunicado que sua rede estava praticamente normalizada.

Hungria

O espaço aéreo está aberto desde a manhã de ontem, quando as restrições foram suspensas. O tráfego aéreo no aeroporto de Budapeste foi normalizado, mas passageiros estão sendo advertidos a checar seus voos junto às companhias antes de ir ao aeroporto.

Noruega

O espaço aéreo norueguês deve permanecer aberto até as 14h (9h de Brasília) desta quarta-feira.

Polônia

O espaço aéreo foi reaberto nesta quarta-feira.

Reino Unido

O país reabriu seu espaço aéreo na noite de terça-feira. A British Airways informou que vai operar todos os seus voos de longa distância saindo dos aeroportos de Heathrow e Gatwick nesta quarta-feira, mas que haveria cancelamentos de voos domésticos saindo e chegando de Londres até às 12h (8h de Brasília).

República Tcheca

O espaço aéreo tcheco e todos os aeroportos continuam abertos desde a segunda-feira (19).

Sérvia e Montenegro

As autoridades de tráfego aéreo da região (Sérvia, Montenegro, partes da Bósnia e do sul do mar Adriático) informaram que a área foi novamente afetada pelas cinzas do vulcão islandês e que a decisão sobre os aeroportos será reavaliada a cada seis horas. No momento os aeroportos na Sérvia, Montenegro e Bósnia estão abertos.

Suécia

O aeroporto de Arlanda, em Estocolomo, foi fechado nesta terça-feira, com pequena possibilidade de que seja reaberto hoje. Os aeroportos em Skavsta, Stockholm-Bromma e Goteborg estão fechados, mas o espaço aéreo em Malmo, no sul, está aberto. Grande parte dos aeroportos do norte também funcionam. Voos de grande altitude são permitidos.

Suíça

Os aeroportos estão abertos. Em Zurique, cerca de 185 voos foram cancelados hoje, grande parte deles para destinos europeus. A companhia aérea Swiss informou que voos de longa distância devem voltar ao normal nesta quarta-feira.

Museu Casa de Rembrandt

Não muito longe do bairro Chinês de Amesterdão e mesmo atrás do Red Light District. Se andar do lado este da Praça Dam em direcção ao Waterlooplein irá encontrar este museu, esta era a casa do famoso pintor Holandês Rembrandt onde nela viveu entre os anos 1639 e 1660.
Um moderno anexo foi recentemente construído junto à casa de Rembrandt. Juntas, estas duas casas são hoje em dia o museu de Rembrandt, mostrando a sua vida e trabalho. Adicionalmente, o anexo e a casa original serve como uma, pequena mas prestigiosa e cheia de estilo, sala de congressos. Para o visitante o Museu Casa de Rembrandt mostra os aspectos desconhecidos da famosa vida deste pintor e do espólio do artista.
História da casa
A casa foi construída em 1606, encontrando-se esta data marcada a ouro na parece frontal da casa. É relativamente larga, construída na nova e moderna parte este da cidade. Bastantes mercantes e financeiros de sucesso também construíram casas nesta nova parte da cidade Amesterdão.
Museu Rembrandt
Em 1906, durante o ano de Rembrandt, a fundação foi estabelecida para comprar a casa do pintor. Três anos mais tarde, depois de restaurada, o museu foi aberto ao publico. O Museu Casa de Rembrandt é uma reconstrução dos quartos de Rembrandt e do seu workshop. As peças de mobiliário e objectos da época foram cuidadosamente apresentados em conjunto com os rascunhos, esculturas e alguns quadros de outros pintores do tempo de Rembrandt. Uma colecção de quase todos os quadros de Rembrandt (mais de 250), os seus utensílios e técnicas gráficas utilizadas por ele, são também mostradas.
O sentimento
A Casa de Rembrandt é uma interessante reconstrução do dia quotidiano do pintor, onde ele vivia e onde trabalhava. Como sempre com a reconstrução, o visitante pode perder um pouco da autenticidade. Não obstante, a Casa de Rembrandt pode ser interessante para pessoas que querem saber mais sobre a vida do famoso pintor, dos seus trabalhos gráficos e mais sobre a época dourada vivida na Holanda em geral.

MUSEU Casa de Anne Frank, Amsterdam

Durante mais de dois anos que Anne Frank e a sua família viveu no anexo do edifício em Prinsengracht 263 onde o pai de Anne, Otto Frank, também tinha um negócio. A família Van Pels e Fritz Pfeffer também se escondeu aqui com eles. A porta para o anexo estava fechada por detrás de uma estante amovível construída especialmente para este fim. Os trabalhadores sabiam do esconderijo e ajudavam as oito pessoas dando-lhes comida e noticias sobre o que ia acontecendo no mundo lá fora. A 4 de Agosto de 1944, o esconderijo foi descoberto. As pessoas que se encontravam escondidas foram deportadas para vários campos de concentração. Apenas Otto Frank sobreviveu à guerra.
Hoje em dia, os quartos na Casa de Anne Frank, embora vazios, ainda respiram a atmosfera sentida neste período de tempo. Citações do seu diário, documentos históricos, fotografias, pequenos filmes, e objectos originais que pertenceram aqueles que se encontravam escondidos e às pessoas que os ajudavam ilustram os eventos que decorrem neste lugar. O diário original de Anne Frank e outros apontamentos encontram-se disponíveis para serem vistos no museu. No espaço multimédia, os visitantes podem entrar numa "viagem virtual" pela Casa de Anne Frank, obtendo informação sobre as pessoas que se encontravam escondidas e sobre a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Uma exposição contemporânea é apresentada na sala de exibições.

Durante a época do verão muitas pessoas de todo o mundo vistam a Casa de Anne Frank. Isto pode significar que as pessoas tem de formar fila antes de entrar no museu. Muitos visitantes não têm conhecimento do facto que de Abril até Agosto, o museu está aberto todos os dias das 9 da manhã até ás 9 da noite. O museu tende a estar mais calmo durante a noite. Assim, nós gostaríamos de sugerir aos nossos visitantes a considerarem visitar o museu de tarde/início da noite.
Características e Serviços
O Museu possui um café e uma livraria que valem também a pena a ser visitados. Não existe bengaleiro. Mochilas de tamanho exagerado não são permitidas entrar. A Casa de Anne Frank não é facilmente acessível a pessoas com problemas físicos e apenas parcialmente acessível a pessoas de cadeiras de rodas. Panfletos gratuitos em 8 línguas estão disponíveis na entrada do museu. A visita leva aproximadamente 1 hora. Os visitantes não estão permitidos a tirarem fotografias ou a filmarem a Casa de Anne Frank.

Enquanto frio castiga Europa e EUA, Ártico tem calor atípico

Enquanto boa parte do hemisfério Norte passa por uma onda de frio nas últimas semanas, a temperatura no Ártico atinge níveis altos e incomuns, dizem cientistas americanos.

"Está quente no Ártico, com a temperatura do ar entre 5,6 ºC e 8,4 ºC mais quente do que deveria estar em certas áreas", diz Mark Serreze, diretor do Centro de Dados Nacional de Neve e Gelo, no Colorado.

Segundo o cientista, nem toda a extensão dessa onda de calor é atribuível ao aquecimento global, mas ela reduz a quantidade de gelo no Ártico e contribui para o fenômeno. Isso ocorre porque menos gelo significa menos luz sendo refletida de volta ao espaço (porque o gelo é branco) e, como consequência, mais calor é retido.

Causa - A atual disparidade térmica registrada pelos centros meteorológicos acontece devido à existência de uma grande área de alta pressão sobre o Ártico. Uma outra, de baixa pressão, atingiu latitudes médias, na Europa e nos Estados Unidos, onde vive grande parte da população do hemisfério Norte.

Normalmente, essas áreas com pressões de ar diferentes deveriam se deslocar e se misturar. Em vez disso, elas continuaram paradas.

Segundo os cientistas, esse estado estacionário das pressões de ar não acontecia com tanta intensidade desde o começo dos registros, em 1950. As duas massas de ar, entretanto, parecem estar começando a se misturar.

Mudança continua - Como a responsabilidade pelo frio é dessa anormalidade no padrão de distribuição das áreas de alta e baixa pressão, cientistas afirmam que as baixas temperaturas não significam que haja um recuo do aquecimento global.

Segundo Omar Baddour, especialista em clima da Organização Meteorológica Mundial, oscilações como esta geralmente duram poucas semanas, raramente passando de um mês e meio. "Como [a atual] começou em dezembro, deve estar perto do fim", afirma.

A bela e bem planejada cidade de Paris tem um sistema de transporte altamente eficiente. Interliga aeroportos, metrôs e trens, ônibus, etc. A melhor forma de conhecer paris ainda é de metrô, apesar de a maior parte da rede ser muito antiga. O tempo máximo que tive de esperar nas principais estações de metrô foi em torno de 3 a 4 minutos!

Para se locomover bem em Paris é preciso entender a organização do espaço urbano.A cidade possui traçado radial e é dividida em quartiers. Seus bairros são orientados como um caracol. Como pode ser visto na figura acima o bairro 1 é correspondente ao Louvre (1º arrodissement). Os bairros são numerados formando círculos concêntricos. Abaixo forneço uma relação do que pode ser visto em cada região para ajudar os turistas a se locomoverem de forma eficiente ao que desejam ver.

Antes, a compra de traveller’s checks era outra tarefa a ser adicionada e sua lista de preparativos para uma viagem ao exterior. Hoje, no entanto, embora os traveller’s checks ainda sejam a maneira mais segura de se levar dinheiro, eles são menos comuns. Graças à conveniência dos caixas automáticos, mesmo se você esquecer de adquirir moeda estrangeira antes da viagem, você poderá facilmente comprar Euros ou outras moedas locais ao chegar.

Por mais convenientes e disponíveis que os caixas automáticos possam ser, sempre tenha um pouco de dinheiro em mãos para não passar por constrangimentos em alguma pequena cidade, onde as máquinas de cartão de crédito não aceitam cartões internacionais. Não permita que imprevistos técnicos impeçam que você leve para casa aquela bolsa de couro ou aquele relógio antigo que você estava de olho!

Home to the rich and famous

Royalty, world leaders, NFL superstars, premiership footballers and endless A-list celebrities from the world of entertainment, sport and culture, The Grove in leafy Hertfordshire has welcomed them all them all and it’s easy to see why. You may be just a short drive from the bright lights and hurly-burly of the capital but it feels like you’re miles from anywhere. The Grove offers all the splendour of English country house living combined with the chic, funky individuality of a boutique hotel. It’s difficult to pinpoint why but, somehow, as you walk around its plush and manicured surroundings, you just know this place has stories to tell. Every nook and every cranny offers a talking point and you get an immediate sense of its illustrious history.

Earliest records of The Grove date back to 1294 and, in it’s hey day, The Grove was a fashionable weekend retreat for the royal, rich and famous. Queen Victoria, Lord Palmerston and Edward VII are said to have been among the illustrious regulars.

Somewhere along the line, The Grove also established itself as an influential hotbed for political debate. In 1936 the house was described by The Times as 'one of the great political houses of the nineteenth century' and its political connections resound to this day. Prime Minister Gordon Brownchose The Grove to host a global summit for an international think tank of the world’s most powerful politicians, an event that boasted no fewer than 15 world leaders on its illustrious guest list.

Grand and groovy – interiors with a twist

The hotel’s impossible to ignore interiors are a major talking point for any guest at The Grove and represent the culmination of a six-year project undertaken by designer, Martin Hulbert.

As well as blue chandeliers purchased for a fiver from a Ferrari showroom in Milan, much of the fresh and funky artwork on view is the work of German Object Artist, Volker Kühn. Visiting an exhibition the artist was hosting at London's Plus One Plus Two Gallery, Hulbert saw Kühn’s work as a perfect fit for The Grove’s grand and groovy ethos and promptly purchased the entire collection of over 200 pieces!

Now displayed in guest rooms and corridors throughout the house, Kühn’s art provides the venue with a series of witty, fresh and sometimes irreverent artistic flourishes and an amusing and off-beat take on subjects such as love, work and marriage. Walking along a hotel corridor has never been so amusing.

As well as the Kühn collection, The Grove features many other equally striking pieces that underline this grand and groovy theme. Expect perspex boxes containing hundreds of paper butterflies and broken household objects and don’t forget to warn auntie about the naked gardener – a very entertaining video installation piece!

A lovingly restored landscape with contemporary twists

But the bells, bangs and whistles of The Grove’s box of magic tricks are not confined to its interior. The 9,000-year-old, 300-acre surrounding estate of beautiful parkland, lakes and woodland is equally capable of springing surprises following a loving restoration masterminded by acclaimed landscape architect, Michael Balston.

Balston used original 17th century designs to influence his vision of a 21st century garden and bring the parkland back to its original glory with the planting of some 47,500 trees! A dedicated Gardens & Estate team works tirelessly to ensure The Grove remains at its best all year round.

As well as formal gardens, outdoor sculptures, a walled garden and a sunken box garden, visitors can enjoy a magnificent five-panel aluminium water wall designed by American-born sculptor, Gregory Ryan, and showcasing his signature technique of replicating dynamic surface patterns from the natural world.

Also worth a look are Somerset-based Neil Wilkin'selegant glass sun catchers anchored in and around the ponds that are best viewed from the venue’s Glasshouse restaurant terraces and let’s not forget the venue’s daunting championship golf course!

A culinary jigsaw to suit all tastes and budgets

As you would imagine, food has a big role to play at The Grove. Food and drink have always been essential pleasures for guests at any country estate and The Grove continues this tradition, but often with its trademark twist. All food is selected from specialist sources and senior members of the 150-strong kitchen team are encouraged, whenever possible, to develop relationships with local suppliers. A kitchen garden is used to grow herbs, vegetables and fruit and the use of seasonal produce means that food is fresh and menus are updated on a regular basis.

Boasting three separate restaurants, each with its own distinct style, The Grove is able to offer food and surroundings for every occasion from the refined à la carte elegance and fine dining of Colette’s where guests can enjoy dishes such as slow-roast Aylesbury duck, line-caught sea bass with clams and saddle of Denham estate venison, to the chic Glasshouse that provides an opportunity to sample high-quality cuisine from all corners of the globe.

The final piece of The Grove’s culinary jigsaw is The Stables, which doubles as a clubhouse for the golfing brigade. 18^th century artist, George Stubbs, was once a regular visitor to the old stables, walking regularly through the leafy Hertfordshire lanes from his home in North London to its collection of mares and stallions. The Stables, with its gastropub-style menu, less ambitious than Collete’s and less varied than The Glasshouse, is still well worth a visit even if you’re of the “golf is a good walk spoiled” school of thought, offering simple, hearty favourites such as Angus steak, slow-roast pork belly and breast of pheasant, all cooked to perfection and served in relaxed and rustic surroundings.

Place de la Libération

Constructed between 1686 and 1701, the place de la Libération, opposite the palais royal, was conceived by the Versailles architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart but was completed by his student Robert de Cotte. Formerly known as the place royale, it became place d'Armes after the French Revolution, then place du Maréchal Pétain during the occupation and finally place de la Libération. A restoration campaign, under the leadership of Jean-Michel Wilmotte, has driven out the cars.

The city of Segovia, encircled by the River Clamores and River Eresma and situated on a rocky crag 1,005 metres above sea level and 7km from the Sierra de Guadarrama, dates back to around 700 BC. The first inhabitants are believed to have been Celts, though the city has since played host to Romans, Goths, Muslims and Jews... all of whom have left their own cultural imprint on the acropolis. These influences have all played their part in the city’s open-air museum feel, with seemingly every corner offering a surprise of some sort for visitors. No surprise, however, is the city’s UNESCO World Heritage status that was awarded in 1985.

The best way to get to know Segovia is a walk through its old and narrow medieval-style streets, an experience that will almost inevitably culminate in the discovery of one of its beautiful town squares framed with historic architecture. Ditch the car. The best way to see Segovia is on foot. Prepare to be amazed by its impressive aqueduct, Romanesque churches, Alcázar, Cathedral, palaces and ancient city walls.

The world's best-preserved aqueduct

The most enduring and emblematic image of Segovia must surely be its Roman aqueduct, considered one of the world’s most important historic monuments. The aqueduct, more than any other Segovia landmarks, breathes life into the city that has spread beneath its arches over the centuries and the place simply wouldn’t be the same without it.

Impossible to ignore, the aqueduct is visible from virtually every corner of the city. For the best views head to Plaza del Azoguejo, where you can view the structure’s maximum 29 metre height in all its glory. It’s here in this square that you can also get one of the best available views of the aqueduct’s two niches, one of them occupied with an image of the Virgen de la Fuencisla [the Patroness of Segovia].

As well as one of the most stunning city views from the stairs located to the side of the aqueduct, Plaza del Azoguejo also offers an opportunity to get a close look at the large, rough-hewn granite stones that form the aqueduct. These stones, structured naturally without mortar or cement, represent one of the monument’s most striking features. An incredible feat of engineering perfection and ingenuity.

Spanning a length of 782 metres, the aqueduct was built during the reign of Emperor Trajan in the latter half of the 1^st century in order to channel water to Segovia from the nearby mountains, a task that it fulfilled until 1884 and that it could, amazingly, still perform today. As recently as 1928, the aqueduct was deployed to supply water to the upper town, in this instance via a pipe that still runs over the old canal.

A stroll through the old town

There are so many delights waiting to be discovered as you stroll through the town that it’s difficult to single out one highlight, though no visit to Segovia is complete without a trip to the Cathedral and Alcázar, two of its most important buildings.

The late Gothic-style Cathedral, located in Plaza Mayor is a majestic building with beautiful spires. Built under the direction of Juan Gil de Hontañón, the architect behind the New Cathedral of Salamanca, the Cathedral’s windows, choir and altarpiece make it a must-see attraction. A visit to the Cathedral Museum is also highly recommended. Here you can view over 500 incunabula including a real treasure, Sinodal de Aguilafuente, widely considered as the first ever book to be printed in Spain.

The Alcázar makes an imposing fortress with a location and structure that practically screams for attention. Situated on the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores, the building dates back to the Celtic era and still retains its deep moat and drawbridge. The Alcázar has served as a royal palace for several reigning kings through the years including Alfonso VIII, Alfonso X el Sabio, Juan II, Enrique IV and the Catholic Kings. Be sure to climb the Torre de Alfonso X El Sabio tower that offers beautiful views of the city.

And if you still have time after all that then you could either head to the ancient city walls, 2,500 metres in length and dating back to the end of the eleventh century, or step into any one of the many Roman churches that you’ll find along the way such as San Millán, San Andrés, San Esteban, la Iglesia de los Templarios, San Martín or La Trinidad. Also highly recommended is a walk through the Jewish quarter and the Barrio de los Caballeros, an area crammed with Gothic renaissance and the palaces that once acted as family homes for Segovia’s nobility.

And what better way to finish the day than by sampling some authentic Spanish food. Lamb and suckling pig are considered the real stars of Segovia’s regional cuisine, but there are many delicious alternatives to enjoy including Castilian soup or judiones de la granja [the creamy, giant white beans often used in stews and paellas].

And there’s always the tapas option if you’re looking for something lighter…tortilla, hams, torreznos [pork crackling] and chipirones [squid]. Tapas dishes are usually served from around 12:30 midday and then again from 7pm. A great selection of bars can be found around Plaza Mayor, a perfect place to relax and enjoy some great tapas ... washed down, of course, with a first-class Ribera del Duero.

Le Printemps de Bourges (21 - 22nd of April) music festival is an opportunity to discover this town which still has countless examples of Gothic architecture in the vicinity of its cathedral and its famous Jacques-Coeur Palace.

As with certain other provincial towns, Bourges suffers from a lack of image. But once you are there one discovers an attractive town and indeed a very lively one, due to its cultural institutions and its many students. Of course the reasons for visiting are: the St-Etienne cathedral, one of the biggest in France, the Jacques Coeur Palace named after Charles VII's minister of finance, the half-timbered houses and winding cobbled streets, the Estève museum (a painter from l'École de Paris who is less well known these days but whose talents as a colourist will appeal), the musée des Meilleurs ouvriers de France (museum for France's best artisans award) in the old Bishop's Palace. Nor should one forget the Printemps de Bourges festival which transforms the town into a gigantic rock concert.

After this you discover the bars and the numerous restaurants of which there are some very nice places such as l'abbaye Saint-Ambroix (François Adamski, Bocuse d'or andMeilleur ouvrier de France award.) or le Piet à Terre (Thierry Finet.) There are also second-hand booksellers, a stringed instrument maker, a proper bookshop and traditional butchers etc.

Bourges saw the introduction of the first of France's Maisons de la Culture, inaugurated by Andre Malraux in 1963. It is also an old university town (Calvin studied and spread his reform ideas from here.) Its National College of Art is equally well known and you can visit its 'Box' gallery of temporary exhibitions which displays 6 to 8 French or international artists every year. This town of the old French province of Berry is also the European capital for the study of bats: these wonderful little flying mammals haunt the vaults/cellars and the many outlying quarries.

From the religious to the civil: two Gothic art masterpieces

Bourges cathedral is one of the most beautiful in France. It was built over eight centuries ago in only two periods (1195-1214 and 1225-1230.)

One never tires of wandering around it and its wide flanked chevets or passing through its richly sculpted portals. Inside there are no less than five floors alternating shade and light. The cathedral is also home to one of France's richest collections of stained glass windows.

Then go down into the crypt where the lower church houses a white marble recumbent statue of Jean de Berry the lavish and famous sponsor of “les très riches heures” (illustrated manuscript) created by the brothers Paul, Jean and Herman de Limburg. The third son of the King of France Jean II (known as 'the Good') is still watched over by his favourite animal - a bear chained by fleur-de-lys. Michel Pastoureau dedicated some fascinating pages to this plantigrade animal in his 'The Bear, a story of a King deprived of his throne.' The crypt also conceals another treasure, a C16th entombment replete with approximately ten statues.

Formed by four main buildings surrounding a central courtyard, the Jacques Coeur Palace is quite simply one of the most sumptuous civil buildings of the Gothic era. Sadly Jacques Coeur, who was abandoned by Charles VII, did not have much of a chance to enjoy it.

The facade displays great colour: a lavish decorative display in tribute to the master and mistress of the house, whose busts gaze amorously at each other (in fact they should have been looking at the centrally placed King who has now disappeared.)

The exceptionally beautiful and opulent interior of the palace is a testimony to the Finance minister's fortune.

The Medieval Town

All you have to do now is wander through the tastefully restored old town, which has numerous half-timbered houses such as those in Rue Bourbonnoux.

The gardens at the Bishops Palace at place Étienne Dolet, the Ramparts promenade at l'hotel des Échevins (Estève museum), and the Passage Casse-cou (Break-neck passage) in the Rue des Juifs. These Berry place names exude a Middle Ages charm.

A night time visit is also a must. Follow the night illuminations route to see the main Berruyer monuments brought out and revealed in a new light by this urban scenography.

Before leaving to explore the fjords of the Northern coast, which are amongst the most spectacular landscapes in Europe, take time to visit Oslo! The oldest Scandinavian capital captures the quintessence of the nation's culture and gastronomy in exceptional settings.

Recommended duration of visit: 3 days

Day One: Taking the City's pulse

Oslo is characterised by its razor-sharp light, its clean, icy air warmed thankfully by the Gulf Stream (the country has the same latitude as Alaska!) and its population density so small that at times it feels like walking in a deserted town.

Oslo is, above all, a way of life. No other European capital is perhaps so in synch with the rhythms of nature: in December the days are only 5 hours long and in June there are just 5 hours of night. The moment Spring arrives the population is exultant, rushing to the beaches, going on boat journeys and getting on their bikes! In the summertime the all night party is a necessity imposed by nature contested by no-one and everyone is in the streets, in the cafe terraces or lying in the grass. The rest of the year they are early to rise, early to work and early eaters (dining at 6pm.)

The City Centre

Upon arriving, I suggest you take a stroll around the city centre which is set around the animated Karl Johans Gate, Oslo'slong, straight main road running from the Royal Palace to the central station.

Here you will find many national institutions such as the National Theatre and the University Botanical Gardens, the National Gallery, (which houses several of Munch's major canvasses), The Continental Hotel (the capital's most luxurious), the Theatercafeen (a fine Viennese style brasserie) and the Grand Cafe (where Oslo's C19^th bohemian society used to meet, from the playwright Henrik Ibsen to the composer Edvard Grieg and from the novellist Knut Hamsun to the painter Edvard Munch.)

The architecture here is predominantly neo-classical, with the exception of the colossal red brick town hall inaugurated in 1950 to celebrate the 900^th anniversary of the Oslo foundation. Its two sturdily built towers, erected in front of the port act as a reference point for ships. Inside, in the immense ceremonial hall, the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize takes place every year on 10^th December. It is the only one of the six Nobel prizes which is not awarded in Stockholm.

The port

However to really appreciate Oslo's soul you should head towards the Aker Brygge wharf which is one of the most lively areas of the town. This is the old area of the docks where completely redeveloped warehouses now house restaurants, theatres, cinemas, department stores and offices (including the office of Norway's most famous businessman, the ex prawn fisherman Kjell Inge Røkke; in the summertime you can buy prawns from the fishing boat from which he made his fortune.)

If you look out over the Oslo fjord, which stretches out over 100km, you will notice peninsulas emerging from the blue waters, and also the Akershus Fortress towering above the port, where old sailing ships are moored.

During the summer, the city dwellers take the ferry or their own sailing boats to reach the beautiful beaches of Langøyene, Hovedøya, Ingierstrand, Hvervenbukta, Katten and Fiskvollbukta, where the water is 18°C.

Oslo, the capital of Norwegian Design

For a complete change of scenery take tram number 12 and pay a visit to the old workers' district of Grünerløkka, situated to the north of the town.

Nowadays it is the archetypal middle class “boho” quarter, with its interesting fashion, jewellery, music and Norwegian design shops (such as Norway Says Shop, at 15, Thorvald Meyers Gate which displays the creations of designers who have won several wards in Norway.)

A pleasant walk that runs alongside and crosses the river Akerselva will bring you to Telthus Bakken (literally 'just after the river') a worker's garden lined with little wooden houses on a hillside.

You can also observe one of the many open air crèches here, where children are taught to ski from the tender age of two. “Here you learn how to ski before you learn how to speak!” explains Anne-Marie Grevle, my excellent guide.

Nature is all around

Oslo is less well known than its Nordic counterparts of Stockholm and Copenhagen and is often perceived merely as a departure point for cruises to the fjords. This capital founded by the Vikings nearly one thousand years ago, whose name originally meant 'marshy plain dedicated to God' is nevertheless a surprising town which will delight sporty types, food lovers and enthusiasts of fine arts and grand classical concerts. In spite of the manna-like oil wealth that has descended on Oslo it has managed to remain in harmony with nature through its beaches, ski slopes, traditional wooden houses and large parks. 570,000 inhabitants share an immense area of which only one third has been built on. The total surface area is four times the size of Paris! In spite of this, the city centre is very confined, nestled in between the port, the Royal Palace and the station (roughly the size of a Parisian arrondissement) and is easily covered by bus or on foot.

Day 2: A boat trip to the Bygdøy peninsula

Situated to the South west of the town, the Bygdøy ('inhabited island' in Norwegian)peninsula can be reached by bus (number 30) or, for more fun, by boat (an hour's crossing) leaving from the port. This is a peaceful, bright residential area with its attractive traditional wooden houses, woods and beaches.

The main reason for visiting is its five mseums which each portray an aspect of Norwegian culture. In my opinion I would advise you to concentrate on two of them. Firstly the Norwegian Folklore museum (Norsk Folkemuseum) erected in a large park where you can admire the country's oldest standing wooden church, built in 1235 in the village of Gol (224 km north west of Oslo).It is a true marvel!

Another gem is,of course the Vikings ship museum (Vikingskishuset) which houses the contents of three Viking graves discovered near to Oslo fjord between 1867 and 1904. There are sculpted wooden chariots, engraved jewels, weapons, day to day objects, tools, pewterware, sleighs and clothes etc. All of these exhibits were originally placed in three boats which, according to a common Viking practice served as a burial place for the kings.

The incredible method for preserving these 'drakkars' was by encasing them in clay, making them impermeable to air and water. Admire the fine, slender construction and the beauty of the prows featuring Nordic deities. Built to cross rivers and seas and to transport a hundred warriors over several months, the drakkars spread terror throughout 8^th to 10^th century Western Europe.

An Evening at the Opera

Oslo is now musically one of the most exciting towns in Europe. Great Norwegian classical musicians have gained renown in recent years. One example is the famous pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and his Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, whose records dedicated to Mozart's concertos and recorded in Oslo's Jar church, have won a large international audience.

In particular Oslo has treated itself to a very futuristic opera house which is entirely covered in marble and glass. Its inauguration took place on 12^th April 2008. Like an iceberg emerging from the water, this imposing building, designed by the architectural agency Snøhetta (who also created the new Alexandria library), is situated on the banks of Oslo fjord, in the Bjørvika district, ten minutes from the town centre.

It is as big as four football pitches and is the largest cultural edifice constructed in Norway since the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. Inside, the horseshoe shaped hall is completely oak panelled and the acoustics are outstanding.

Day 3: Introduction to Telemark skiing

On the streets of Oslo, in the wintertime, it is not unusual to come across skiers on their way to the pistes by metro (T-Bane line 1 towards Frognerseteren for cross country skiing or Voksenkollen for downhill and telemark skiing.) There are slopes situated in the town itself, 20 minutes from the centre and they stay open and floodlit until 10pm, enabling after work skiing.

The telemark was invented in Norway in C19^th by a carpenter named Sondre Auversen. It would be a shame not to use your stay to learn this technical and elegant way of skiing! At the Frognerseteren ski school, an exceptional ski instructor, Reidun Løvstuen will teach you the basics of telemark of which the specifics are to have your heal free and the inner knee always flexed on the bends. It is a very beautiful style of skiing to watch, a sort of dance that is very much in contact with the snow, and is adapted to Norway's particular brand of undulating, sloping small hills.

After the session don't miss out on dining at the Frognerseteren traditional restaurant (www.frognerseteren.no) whose terrace overlooks the whole valley: a wonderful establishment.

Oslo Luthavn airport is located thirty kilometres from the capital. I would advise you not to take a taxi as the fare will be around 1000 NOK – nearly £100! Make sure you take the fast Flytoget train which links the airport with the city centre (National Theatre station) in 20 minutes for only 160 NOK. This train is directly accessible from the underground level of the airport and you can pay for your ticket by credit card using ticket vending machines.

Germany, Gengenbach - In the heart of the Black Forest

Stretching over 170 km from Karlsruhe to Basle in southwest Germany, the Black Forest was once a place of terrifying legends full of elves and witches… Today, it is fascinating for its variety of landscapes, and makes you just want to lose yourself far from the noise of civilisation!

Quick overview

Beyond its vast northern plateaux almost entirely covered with conifers, the Black Forest is usually divided into three separate tourist areas. First there is the “High Road”, which rises to an altitude of 1,000 m and crosses very contrasting landscapes combining slopes covered with vineyards and orchards and high pasture land (Grinde). Then comes the “Central Black Forest”, which follows the bottom of the valleys of the Kinsig and the Elz and encompasses small towns renowned for their traditional industry (such as Triberg with its clock and watch making industry). Lastly, around Fribourg, the “High Black Forest” is famous for its almost alpine peaks (Belchen and Feldberg), its lakes (Schluchsee and Titisee) and its footpaths, where you can come across rare species of wild flowers. It is also the birthplace of philosopher Martin Heidegger, who saw in the forest path a metaphor for western thought:

Gengenbach

I suggest starting your tour with one of the jewels of Baden-Württemberg: Gengenbach. Set on the banks of the Kinsig, in the heart of the forest and vineyards, this little town famous for its Christmas market, carnival and Advent calendar, has magnificently preserved and restored the architecture of its old half-timbered houses.

So, around the market square, take the time to admire its 18th century buildings such as the Town Hall, Council Chambers, Sweden Tower – designed to defend the town – and Benedictine abbey, which boasts a very beautiful Baroque garden. From the top of the Niggel Tower (der Niggelturm), which houses a Carnival Museum, you can enjoy a panoramic view that takes in Strasbourg cathedral!

For lunch, I recommend Pfeffermühle, a traditional restaurant where you can sample a delicious “Baden festival soup”.

Durbach

Then head towards Durbach, which has been the focal point of the Baden-Württemberg vineyards for 1,000 years. Perched on a hill, the historic castle of the Grand Duke of Baden (Markgraf von Baden) is not just a very beautiful place, it is also where some of the region’s best wines are made.

Derived from the Grand CruSchlossberg vineyard, Riesling and Pinot Noir flourish in these sloping granite soils, where the vines are grown organically and outputs are lower (24 hl/ha). Compared to the famous Rheingau Rieslings, famous throughout the world for their minerality and crystalline purity, the wines of Durbach are fruitier and fatter. The Markgraf von Baden winery also produces wonderful late-harvest Rieslings with a low level of alcohol (10.5%).

Kappelrodeck

This pretty village is located between the Baden Wine Route and the High Road. Its majestic half-timbered houses are dominated by an 11th century castle, which is a symbol of the village: Rodeck castle.

As far as the eye can see, the very fertile land is covered with orchards which, when spring arrives, turn the Acher valley into a sea of flowers! The air here is pure, nature good for hiking and mountain bike riding, and the inhabitants very welcoming.

Don’t hesitate to set down your bags in the Rebstock Waldulm inn, where charming waitresses wearing traditional costume serve wonderfully fresh regional dishes.

Kappelrodeck is, however, worth a visit above all for the delicious brandies that have made its name throughout Germany. Thus, the Scheibel family has, since the early 20th century, been producing artisan brandies distilled over wood fires: they are made with hand-picked wild plums and cherries from the Black Forest, and boast exceptional finesse and aromatic power.

Another place not to be missed: Theo Künstel, in the centre of the village, makes very good cherry- and berry-based balsamic vinegars, which will liven up your salads no end! His fir tree honey and brandies are also superb. As for Theo’s daughter, she organises hikes that enable you to discover the aromatic and medicinal herbs of the Black Forest.

Lunch at Neuweier Castle

The village of Neuweier was until now famous for its vineyards, planted at the foot of a castle that once belonged to members of the French nobility. Today it is an unmissable place to eat, thanks to young chef Armin Röttele (one Michelin star since 2006), whose restaurant is set in an opulent little 16th century castle.

Here, this motorcycle-mad adventurer creates Mediterranean-inspired cuisine which, however, relies on good Black Forest produce, such as mushrooms and tender fillet of veal from Elztal, which is grilled and served with a smooth spring risotto.

All of his impeccably crafted dishes are full of elegance and lightness, for example his giant prawns in nut crust with salad of white asparagus and herbs. But the most amazing thing is still, for this level of cuisine, the price of the lunch menu: starter, main course and dessert for 30 euros!

Baden-Baden

In Russia, the expression “to have a Baden-Baden” has been passed down through the ages and still means “to have a good time”! In the past, people came here to take the waters and gamble at the casino; today, businessmen from the Putin era come here first and foremost to deposit their money… “Roulettenburg”, as Dostoyevsky dubbed it in TheGambler, is a stage set the like of which there are few in the world.

On the banks of the Oos, upper middle class people, musicians and writers from all over the world cross paths along Lichtentaler Allee – the most beautiful promenade in the town – but also in the tearoom at the Brenner’s hotel, at the racecourse, in the Festspielhaus concert hall or in the “Irish-Roman” baths of the Friedrichsbad. This neo-Renaissance palace has become one of the favourite places to relax of all the stressed senior execs in Europe... Mark Twain had this to say about it, which proves more relevant than ever: “At the Friedrichsbad you lose track of time within 10 minutes and track of the world within 20…”

In the footsteps of Bismarck, Napoleon III, Alexander II and Clémenceau, you can go to the Trinkhalle to sample the water of Baden-Baden, which is warm, salty and free here. This unbottled water has been renowned for treating depression since ancient times.

Another moving place is Brahms’ house, in the heights of the town: the composer summered here from 1865 to 1874 together with Clara Schumann, and created some major works here, such as his German Requiem, his first two symphonies and his sonata for cello and piano.

Lastly, in the heart of the spa park, the new Frieder Burda Museum of Modern Art – named after its founder, a German press tycoon, houses the pictorial quintessence of the last 50 years: Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, but also Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke and Georg Baselitz. Perfectly integrated into the green, retro environment, this parallelepiped all of glass, light and aluminium is the work of architect Richard Meier (Getty Museum in Malibu, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art).

Baiersbronn

At last the time has come to take the famous High Road! A total change of scene… Here the forest becomes dark and dense and snow falls in thick flakes, plunging us into a world reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining… Destination? The municipality of Baiersbronn which, after Stuttgart, is the most extensive in Baden-Württemberg, with no less than 9 villages.

Above all, Baiersbronn is THE centre of gravity of German gastronomy, with no fewer than 30 restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide, two of them legendary 3-star establishments: great chef Harald Wohlfart’s Schwarzwaldstube and Claus-Peter Lumpp’s Bareiss.

Besides the pleasures of the table, I recommend paying a visit to another phenomenon: Reinhard Bosch. This former lumberjack, who once lived in India, is a fitness specialist. His method? Gigantic wooden baths in which you are immersed dressed in linen breeches of the kind that were woven in the Middle Ages…

In winter, these “old-style” baths are organised inside a barn and in summer in the open air, in the middle of flower-filled fields. Rose petals, spices and all kinds of salts scent the spring water. Afterwards, Reinhard covers you with clay in order to purify the pores of your skin then, 30 minutes later, rinses you and massages you from feet to shoulders… A memorable experience, I assure you!

Cracow, the real capital of Poland

There’s no escaping the clichés, Cracow is a pure gem, a little Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque jewel. Poland’s former capital city is, beyond question, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978, it is readily compared with Prague, but is a little less touristy. Whilst awaiting the transition to the Euro, life is still cheap here. Make the most of it!

A city saved by a miracle

Poland’s history is a long litany of suffering, littered with invasions, destruction and oppression. Swedes, Austrians, Germans and Russians often left behind nothing but smoking ruins and desolation.

That Cracow (Kraków in Polish, pronounced “Krakuf”) was able to avoid the grim fate of Warsaw – 85% of which was destroyed during the Second World War –is a miracle. It nonetheless suffered greatly at the hands of the Nazis: only 10% of the 70,000 Jews of Cracow survived the war. As for the communists, they wanted to eradicate the soul of this city, which was considered a middle-class and intellectual haunt, by proletarianising it. About 6 miles away they built a gigantic iron and steel works, coupled with a new town in the purest Stalinist style: Nowa Huta.

However, Cracow did not depart from its illustrious past as a political and cultural capital and became a hotbed of resistance, its most famous representative being a certain Karol Wojtyla. If the royal city almost vanished, it was, in the end, because of pollution and neglect. Dilapidated walls, statues eroded by acid rain, filthy façades: anyone who knew Cracow over 15 years ago would find it hard to recognise today. But by neglecting it, the communists in the end protected it from the marks of modernity. Cracow is an intact city, to our great delight!

A young city that has regained its colours

Just like its cheerful façades, which have recovered their pastel shades, the population of Cracow is characterised by its youth and dynamism. At a time when the countries of Western Europe are ageing, the contrast is striking: the number of inhabitants has quadrupled since the war and the city remains an important university centre, with nigh on 45,000 students. So there’s nothing fossilized about this city, even though the backdrop has remained unchanged for several centuries, as witnessed by the number of bars and cafés. The considerable Polish diaspora in Canada, the USA and Australia sends its contingent of young students and you can hear English being spoken on every street corner.

Another new phenomenon is the number of mixed marriages with Irish and English people. While France closed its doors to Polish plumbers, over a million Poles emigrated to Western Europe, mainly to the United Kingdom and Ireland, with almost 1,000,000 and 500,000 migrants respectively. You can see the effects of this in the splendid churches of Cracow, where weddings in both languages are not uncommon.

The soul of ancient Poland

Unlike Warsaw or even Gdansk, which was also destroyed to a great extent, Cracow is visibly authentic. Although Warsaw’s architecture is mixed to say the least – the fruit of post-war reconstruction – Cracow forms a townscape of great unity, fashioned through the centuries of over one thousand years of history (the town was mentioned for the first time in 965).

The Cracowians are proud of their city, of its heritage as well as its intellectual and artistic life, which continued after the war in spite of the communist regime, for example through director and playwright Tadeusz Kantor. They are cultivating a very southern nonchalance that is closer to the Viennese spirit than to the northern severity of Warsaw.

This art of living is perfectly symbolised in two places: the Jama Michalikacafé and the Planty. The former is none other than the oldest café in the city, and probably in the country; this den of the intelligentsia, pre-war, has retained its Art Nouveau decor and is covered with works by the various artists who frequented it, notably from the avant-garde Young Poland (Młoda Polska) movement.

The Planty, for its part, is a vast leafy promenade that surrounds the historic centre on the site of the city’s old ramparts, destroyed in the 19th century by the Austrians, like Vienna’s Ring. No better place to observe the Cracowian at leisure: lovers, students of the nearby Jagiellonian University, senior citizens, children on their way back from school…

Far from the tourist bustle of the Rynek (market square) or Wawel Castle, a stroll through Kazimierz will take you back in time, to an age when this was the biggest Jewish quarter in Eastern Europe. It is undergoing profound change, evolving between trendiness, alternative culture and reappropriation by the Jewish community. Deserted and impoverished for nigh on 45 years by the communist government, Kazimierz is making great headway with renovation but still retains housing in serious disrepair and roughly cobbled streets. Worth visiting now, before the place is to be found in every tour operator’s catalogue! The climax of this quest for a bygone world is a visit to the two Jewish cemeteries, a jumble of stelae overgrown with vegetation.

The Royal Way

You should allow at least three or four days to visit Cracow and the surrounding area, but if you are short of time, then set out on the “Royal Way”, which will take you through historic Cracow and enable you to discover the major monuments. A route once taken by retinues of sovereigns or illustrious visitors, today it is roamed by all manner of tourists.

The itinerary starts at Matejki Square, passes by the Gothicbarbican and St Florian’sGate, vestiges of the old fortifications, before following the splendid Florianska Street, with a view of the bell tower of St Mary’sChurch (Kosciół Mariacki) and the main market square (Rynek Główny).With its houses boasting Renaissance and Baroque façades, its cloth hall and numerous pavement cafés, the Rynek is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe and will be the high point of your visit.

Next, if you head off down Grodzka Street, where one of the major attractions is the Baroque church of St Peter and St Paul (Kosciół Św. Piotra i Pawła), then go down Kanonicza Street, a very picturesque authentic mediaeval thoroughfare, you will reach Wavel Hill, overlooking the river.

Crowned by its royal castle and cathedral, Wawel is the crucible of Polish identity and a place that is all the more symbolic since this sanctuary was used for the coronation of kings, and is now a pantheon where the various royal dynasties lie alongside illustrious men of the nation, from the poet Adam Mickiewicz to the heroes Tadeusz Kościuszko and Józef Piłsudski.

Mountain biking in Liguria: coasting along the Italian Riviera

With its gentle, sunny climate and backdrop of the Alps and Mediterranean, the Italian province of Liguria is blessed with an exceptional environment. Naturally, tourism of the outdoorsy sort is actively promoted, with an accent on mountain biking. Three of the region’s prime cycling spots are presented below.

While Liguria is one of Italy’s smallest regions, it is also one of the most sought after, thanks to the many resort towns which dapple the coast. With Genoa as its capital, Liguria reaches up to Vintimille on the French border, and over to the port of Spezia at the gates of Tuscany. The ‘Italian Riviera’ has good weather going for it, obviously - the climate is ideal for growing almonds, olives, lemons, grapes and, of course, flowers - but its finest feature is its exceptional position between the Alps and the Mediterranean. A land of plenty which looks to attract visitors during the low season, Liguria entices ramblers and bike enthusiasts with miles of fabulous trails across its parks and natural sites.

Mountain bikers are specially targeted, as they are sure to enjoy the steep inclines and dry, marked trails which are practicable year-round. Cyclists can pedal from one ‘single-track trail’ to the next until they’ve reached one of the magnificent panoramic views of the Mediterranean which are so emblematic of the region.

From the Maritime Alps to Cinque Terre...

Seasoned mountain bikers will favour the alpine slopes of the Alpi del mare, the Maritime Alps. This region of the province of Imperia, situated between the French border and the Piedmont, lets cyclists climb to an altitude of 1,500m (nearly 5,000 ft) in less than forty kilometres (25 mi) before a complete descent all the way to the sea, passing through great prairies and magnificent wooded areas along the way. Clever planning requires you to be driven to the Arroscia Valley at the foot of Mont Sacarello, the high point of the Ligurian Alps. Once you’re up top, the heady thrill of the descent is all yours - presuming you don’t mind a few tough uphill stretches from one mountain to the next! Reserved for the most experienced cyclists.

Finale Ligure, south of Savone, is more accessible and every bit as beautiful. This is where the 24 Hours of Finale MTB competition is held every year, with over a thousand cyclists assembling in order to confront the devilishly divine trails of this coastal resort town. The area boasts a veritable multitude of marked tracks.

Finally, the third spot is far to the south, in the wonderful Cinque Terre Natural Park, on the edge of the Spezia. This natural site’s five villages have been built into the mountains overlooking the Mediterranean. The best way to discover the park is to take a train, then walk - or better yet, pedal.

One of the most beautiful trails leaves from Monte Bardellone, situated just above Monterosso Al Mare, Cinque Terre’s westernmost village. You’ll enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the nature park and the ancient village towers. Then, a trail along the ridges will lead you along one of the park’s most beautiful ‘singletracks’ (trail n°1) with an exceptional view of the rocky coastline and terraced vineyards. There’s a progressive descent as far as Riomaggiore. Once you’re in the village, we recommend that you curb your bicycle and walk the enchanting via dell Amore, a narrow path carved into the rock between Riomaggiore and the Manarola fishing village which offers one of the peninsula’s most spectacular vistas.

Bornholm: a little closer to Paradise

Hands up those who have heard of Bornholm. There’s not much hype in UK tourist pages about this little Danish island situated near the Swedish coast. And yet, those who have ventured here have never forgotten it.

Like Eric Guggenheim, founder and president of the Olsen smoked-fish company. Talk to him about this “Corsica of the North”, as he likes to call it, and his eyes grow wide. Bornholm has been dear to his heart for over twenty years. For a few weeks now, it has been close to ours.

What’s the reason for this? A few objective criteria and a whole lot of little transient things. It is said that Bornholm has a little of all the finest landscapes to be found in the whole of Denmark. Vast beaches in the south of the island at Dueodde (whose fine sand was used to make hourglasses), a wild, craggy coast to the east, big forests in the centre.

Besides nature, Bornholm has good selling points from an architectural point of view, with coloured fishermen’s cottages and unexpected round whitewashed churches. These fortified churches – four in all – are one of the island’s main attractions; they enabled the inhabitants to protect themselves from attack – fairly frequent in times past. The Hammershus fortress, perched on a cliff over 70 metres high affording a spectacular view of the Baltic, also bears witness to this unsettled past.

To get from one site to another, it is preferable to use a bicycle like a good many Danes who have all, at some time or other, cycled around Bornholm – a sort of pilgrimage made possible by the 124 miles of cycle tracks. It is in fact the best way to explore this island of reassuring dimensions (227 square miles), since by car you can only skim the surface.

Thus you can set out to meet the numerous producers who have given Bornholm its highly gastronomic reputation. Starting with the fish smokehouses, the profusion of which gives you an idea of how lucrative a business the herring industry was in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, the small town of Gudhjem had twenty-five fish smokehouses. Today there remain only about ten on the whole island, but although the number has dropped, the quality is still there.

The røgeri

The island of Bornholm is renowned throughout Denmark for the quantity and quality of its smokehouses (røgeri) – most of the fish smoked there being wild ones caught in the Baltic Sea. Herring, mackerel, prawns, eels and other indigenous fish as well as salmon, of course.

The fish are smoked in the traditional manner, hot or cold. The smoking time and temperature distinguish the two techniques and make it possible to obtain a radically different product.

In cold smoking, after being salted, the fish are smoked for 10 hours at 27°C using beech wood.

In hot smoking, the time is shorter (4 hours) but the temperature higher (70°C) and the wood used is alder, which gives the fish a very delicate flavour.

Salmon can be cold or hot smoked. In the first case, one obtains the smoked salmon that we all know, which can be finely sliced. In the second case, the fish is presented in pieces; it has the appearance of an oven-baked fillet but has a smoked taste of incomparable elegance and mildness.

In general, all fish that can be sliced can be cold smoked. The other, smaller ones, such as herring or mackerel, are hot smoked. Depending on their size, they can be smoked whole or in fillets. In this case, the fish are sometimes flavoured with paprika, pepper, garlic, etc.

With the development of tourism, the røgeri have been gradually converted into little restaurants offering buffets with an assortment of smoked fish. Generally situated on the sea front, these establishments enjoy an unobstructed view.

The typical Bornholm dish, served in all the røgeri, is sol over Gudhjem: a whole hot-smoked herring served with an egg yolk and finely sliced red onion and chives.

The gourmet island

Bornholm is an El Dorado of taste. The numerous producers are spread out over the whole area. Another distinctive feature is that they have all gone for quality. The products of Bornholm are consequently renowned throughout Denmark and are sometimes exported beyond the borders, like the Bryghusetbeers, which are today dispatched as far afield as Hong Kong.

Cockerel breeders, manufacturers of caramels, cheeses, rapeseed oil, mustards, aquavit… You will find most of these products in a mill converted into a shop: Borholm Fødevareudvik-lingscenter, Møllebakken 4c, 3760, Gudhjem.

Also of note are the distinctively flaky crackers (the firm claims that there are 27 flaky layers), which are delicious and very crisp. Made using local flour from the island’s mills and rapeseed oil, also from Bornholm, tasting these unusual crackers is an absolute must. (Johannes & søn, østergade 1, 3720 AAkirkeby).

13. Onde obter o atestado de antecedentes criminais?

O atestado de antecedentes criminais pode ser emitido através da Secretaria de Segurança Pública, Delegacias ou nas unidades do Poupa-Tempo, deve ter menos de 90 dias de emissão quando apresentado.

No entanto, se o mesmo destina-se a um pedido de visto, deverá providenciar a certidão de antecedentes criminais emitida pela Polícia Federal, que depois deve ter a assinatura do escrivão reconhecida em Cartório de nossa área de jurisdição ( www.dpf.gov.br ou 3616-5000).

14. Qual o tamanho da fotografias utilizadas para passaporte e no Bilhete de Identidade?

Para passaporte já não é mais necessária a fotografia, pois com o novo Passaporte eletrônico, a mesma é tirada no Consulado, assim sendo, ao vir para o seu atendimento agendado, pedimos a gentileza de virem com o cabelo preso (no caso de ter cabelo comprido) para não interferir na qualidade da fotografia.

Devem ser fotografias com menos de 1 ano, coloridas, com fundo branco e liso, mas com contraste suficiente, sem data, e sem reflexos (no caso de usar óculos). A cabeça deve estar descoberta (chapéus, lenços e outros não são permitidos), e o cabelo não deve cobrir o rosto.

Para Bilhete de Identidade, a medida é (32x32)mm, mas não tente enviar as de 3X4 (30X40 mm) pois são menores do que o necessário, envie sempre um pouco maior, de preferência (35x45) mm e depois cortaremos com alicate especial (assim sendo, convém que o rosto não ocupe todo espaço da fotografia).

Cumpre ressaltar que algumas máquinas automáticas emitem fotografias que ficam "pegajosas", grudando umas nas outras. As impressas em impressoras de comuns, são de baixa qualidade. Estas fotografias podem, ao ser plastificadas no Bilhete, ter a tinta derretida ou produzir manchas, mesmo que não sejam visíveis na fotografia.

15. O passaporte português precisa de visto para viajar a turismo para os Estados Unidos da América?

Os novos passaportes electrónicos portugueses (PEP), que passou a ser emitido desde 28 de Agosto de 2006, com fotografia impressa a laser, contém um chip com os dados do titular que pode ser lido nas fronteiras dos países, mas passaram a ser emitidos em Lisboa, o que faz com que leve em torno de 10 dias para que o utente os receba em casa.

O modelo anterior tem leitura óptica e foto impressa, foi emitido entre Janeiro de 2001 e 28 de Agosto de 2006. Tanto este modelo (de leitura óptica) quanto o actual (PEP) continuam sendo aceites sem visto para turismo nos EUA.

Já o modelo anterior, que tem a foto colada, não é aceito sem visto para entrar nos EUA, apenas com visto.

16. Qual o horário para retirada de documentos?

Para sua comodidade, todos nossos documentos são enviados pelo correio, por SEDEX, não havendo necessidade de vir retirá-los.

17. O que é necessário para requerer o passaporte?

Para pedir o passaporte irá precisar de Bilhete de Identidade válido. Se não o tiver deverá pedi-lo (clique aqui) mas poderá pedir ao mesmo tempo o passaporte.

18. O que é necessário para requerer o Bilhete de Identidade?

ATENÇÃO: Caso o estado civil actual seja diferente do que consta em sua certidão de nascimento, deverá actualizá-la para requerer o Bilhete de Identidade (transcrever o casamento, por exemplo - ver no site), do contrário o mesmo virá com o estado civil "trancado". Mas, neste Consulado poderá pedir a actualização do seu estado civil e o Bilhete de Identidade ao mesmo tempo, assim como o Passaporte, para isso clique aqui.

19. Qual o prazo para emissão de um Bilhete de Identidade?

A partir de 10 de Dezembro de 2003, São Paulo, numa iniciativa da Secretaria de Estado das Comunidades, foi o primeiro posto consular a emitir Bilhetes de Identidade (anteriormente eram emitidos apenas em Portugal). Com isso, os Bilhetes de Identidade que demoravam de 6 meses a 1 ano para ficar prontos, agora ficam prontos em menos de 10 dias. Depois de emitidos os documentos lhe serão enviados pelo correio (SEDEX).

Cumpre ressaltar no entanto que, o Consulado agora pede a Certidão de Nascimento portuguesa, o que, em alguns casos, pode gerar demoras adicionais que não dependem do Consulado (em média 20 dias a mais).

20. Como homologar divórcios ou separações?

Não é da competência dos Consulados proceder a averbação dos divórcios e separações.
Por se tratarem de sentenças estrangeiras, terão que ser revistas e confirmadas por Tribunal Português, para posteriormente ser feita a devida homologação.
Deverá contratar advogado em Portugal a fim de requerer a homologação da referida sentença com base nos Autos do Processo de Divórcio que deverão ser fotocopiados e reconhecidos neste Consulado, e enviados acompanhados de procuração que o advogado contratado vai orienta-lo (a) como proceder.
No entanto, não podemos indicar nenhum advogado, para isso sugerimos que contacte directamente a www.oa.pt.

21. Como obter a dupla nacionalidade?

A nacionalidade portuguesa é atribuída (dupla nacionalidade) apenas a filhos de pai ou mãe português (clique aqui para maiores informações).

Para dar entrada no processo de nacionalidade já deverá constar na certidão de nascimento dos pais o averbamento do casamento. Providencie as respectivas transcrições, se não forem casados o processo apenas seguirá outro procedimento (clique aqui para saber como fazer a transcrição).

22. Sou filho de Portugueses, mas meu pai (ou mãe) faleceu. Posso ter Dupla Nacionalidade?

Sim, continua podendo ter dupla nacionalidade. Neste caso deve averbar também o óbito de seu pai (ou mãe), com isso não precisará apresentar os documentos de identificação pessoal (Bilhete de Identidade, passaporte, RNE) de seu pai (ou mãe). Para ver informações, clique aqui.

23. Netos de portugueses não podem obter a dupla nacionalidade?

Os brasileiros netos de português (ou portuguesa) mas cujo pai (ou mãe) faleceu sem obter a nacionalidade portuguesa a que tinha direito, podem tentar a sua aquisição por naturalização. a qual no entanto, não é transmissível aos filhos já nascidos (somente é transmissível aos filhos do requerente que ainda forem menores ou que nascerem após a aquisição de nacionalidade por este último, tal como só é transmissível ao cônjuge ou equivalente estrangeiro três anos depois da mesma data). 24. Sou filho(a) de português(a), mas meu pai (ou mãe) se naturalizou brasileiro, tenho direito a obter a dupla nacionalidade?

Se o pai se naturalizou antes de Outubro de 1981, ele perdeu a nacionalidade portuguesa e só poderá passar a nacionalidade portuguesa aos filhos que tiverem nascido antes da naturalização brasileira. Se naturalizou-se após esta data mantém as duas nacionalidades e pode passar o direito aos filhos.

Por outro lado, a legislação mudou recentemente, podendo seu pai (ou mãe), readiquirir a nacionalidade portuguesa (clique aqui), e voltar a poder passar a nacionalidade para seus filhos.

25. Pretendo dar entrada no processo de nacionalidade portuguesa, mas tenho dúvidas sobre algumas divergências de nome que notei nas certidões. O que devo fazer?

Muito provavelmente irá precisar rectificá-las e para isso precisará entrar com processo em tribunal (procure o respectivo cartório e eles lhe informarão como proceder). Mas se forem divergências simples (trocas de letras que não alteram a fonética, por exemplo) pode enviar seus documentos como se fosse para dar entrada, seguindo todos os procedimentos descritos, mas anexe suas dúvidas com relação as divergências. O sector irá analisar e responder o que fazer ou, se não forem divergências significativas, irá dar entrada em seu processo.

26. Fiz um pedido de certidões no Portal do Cidadão. Como posso obter informações sobre o andamento do mesmo?

Os pedidos de certidões podem ser feitos no site http://certidoes.portaldocidadao.pt/certidoesOnLine/HtmlFinal/certidoes.jsp cujo link é disponibilizado no site deste Consulado Geral. Salientamos, porém, que o referido site não é da nossa responsabilidade, devendo as questões e dúvidas que se apresentarem no processo , ser colocadas directamente ao Infocid, através do e-mail spdirecto@infocid.gov.pt .

Informamos ainda que a certidão só chegará se o pedido tiver sido pago com cartão de crédito Internacional.

Por outro lado, o Consulado Geral de Portugal em São Paulo está aparelhado para pedir todas as certidões necessárias aos pedidos feitos nele, basta seguir as instruções de nosso site, no serviço pretendido, ou seja, não precisa mais se preocupar em pedir as certidões, o Consulado pede por si.

As procurações feitas no Consulado, somente poderão ser feitas em conjunto quando se tratar de casais ou pai e filhos solteiros, desde que os poderes sejam os mesmos.

O interessado na obtenção do Passaporte Comum deve ser Brasileiro nato ou naturalizado

O processo de solicitação do passaporte começa com o acesso ao site http://www.dpf.gov.br/. Lá você irá seleccionar a localidade onde quer tirar o documento.

Na página seguinte, após ler as informações, clique em "emissão de passaporte". Preencha o formulário, no final, digite o código de segurança e confirme.

Em seguida, surgirão três botões. Clique primeiro "gerar protocolo", depois "gerar GRU" (guia para pagamento da taxa) e, por último, em "fechar".

Imprima o protocolo e a guia (obs: para a impressão do PROTOCOLO e da GRU é necessário que o programa Adobe Acrobat Reader esteja instalado no computador. Caso não tenha instalado, você pode instalá-lo. Na própria página tem link para a instalação do produto)

Retorne à página "Siga os seguintes passos para retirar seu Passaporte Comum - Padrão ICAO" e clique em "Clique aqui para obter informações sobre os postos de atendimento da Polícia Federal ";

As colectas de fotografia, digitais e assinatura serão realizadas nas dependências do DPF, por meios electrónicos.

DOCUMENTOS NECESSÁRIOS

1. Documento de Identidade, para maiores de 12 anos (O documento de identidade apresentado poderá ser recusado se o tempo de expedição e/ou o mau estado de conservação impossibilitarem a identificação do requerente)
Podem ser aceitos como documento de identidade: - cédula de identidade expedida por Secretaria de Segurança Pública; - carteira funcional expedida por órgão público, reconhecida por lei federal como documento de identidade válido em todo território nacional; - carteira de identidade expedida por comando militar, ex-ministério militar, pelo Corpo de Bombeiros ou Polícia Militar; - passaporte brasileiro anterior; - carteira nacional de habilitação expedida pelo DETRAN (modelo atual); - carteira de identidade expedida por órgão fiscalizador do exercício de profissão regulamentada por lei; - carteira de trabalho e previdência social-CTPS.

2. Carteira de Identidade Civil (RG) e Certidão de Casamento com a devida averbação, se for o caso, para as pessoas que tiverem o nome alterado em razão de casamento, separação ou divórcio;

3. Carteira de Identidade Civil (RG) ou Certidão de Nascimento para os menores de 12 anos;

4. Título de Eleitor e comprovantes de que votou na última eleição (dos dois turnos, se houve). Na falta dos comprovantes, declaração da Justiça Eleitoral de que está quite com as obrigações eleitorais, ou justificativa eleitoral;

5. Documento que comprove quitação com o serviço militar obrigatório, para os requerentes do sexo masculino a partir de 01 de janeiro do ano em que completam 19 anos até 31 de dezembro do ano em que completam 45 anos;

6. Certificado de Naturalização, para os Naturalizados;

7. Comprovante de pagamento da taxa em REAIS, por meio da guia GRU (Guia de Recolhimento da União), que deverá ser preenchida pela Internet, sendo necessário o CPF do requerente ou responsável, código da receita e da unidade arrecadadora conforme tabela das receitas existente na própria guia (Obs: antes de efectivar o pagamento, verifique se a unidade arrecadadora foi preenchida correctamente. Não é possível requerer passaporte em unidade distinta daquela que constar na GRU);

8. Apresentar o Passaporte anterior, quando houver (válido ou não). A não apresentação deste, por qualquer motivo, implica em pagamento da taxa em dobro;
- O brasileiro que tiver seu passaporte válido inutilizado por qualquer repartição consular ou de imigração estrangeiras, no Brasil ou no exterior (por negativa de visto ou deportação), não está impedido de requerer um novo passaporte. Basta apresentar o passaporte, válido ou não, para cancelamento. Com este gesto, o usuário evitará o pagamento da taxa em dobro e a simulação de extravio do passaporte, pois esta acarreta providências inúteis do DPF visando à recuperação do documento;

Observações:

- A Igualdade de Direitos concedida a portugueses não é suficiente para obtenção de Passaporte, sendo necessária a naturalização; - Os passaportes requeridos e não retirados no prazo de 90 (noventa) dias serão cancelados; - Havendo justificadas razões outros documentos poderão ser exigidos a critério da autoridade expedidora; - Para fins de identificação biométrica, o servidor do DPF procederá à colecta de impressões digitais roladas dos dez dedos do requerente de passaporte, de sua fotografia facial e assinatura, por meio de equipamentos electrónicos próprios.

PRAZO DE ENTREGA

A unidade da Polícia Federal verificará os documentos e colectará os dados electrónicos e será impresso protocolo onde constará a data provável da entrega do passaporte, que será de no máximo 6 (seis) dias úteis.

VALIDADE DO PASSAPORTE

A validade dos passaportes é de até 05 (cinco) anos. Expirado o prazo de validade deverá ser solicitado novo passaporte. O passaporte para menor de 4 (quatro) anos de idade terá validade definida de acordo com sua idade, conforme abaixo:
0 a 1 - 1 ano1 a 2 - 2 anos2 a 3 - 3 anos3 a 4 - 4 anos4 em diante - 5 anos

PASSAPORTE COM DATA DE VALIDADE VENCIDA

Ao identificar que a validade de seu passaporte tenha expirado e você deseje solicitar novo, faça o procedimento normal de pedido de passaporte. Você não precisa esperar até o vencimento do seu atual passaporte para solicitar outro. (Obs.: o passaporte não poderá ser renovado, caso seja de interesso do cidadão, deverá se solicitado novo)

PROCURAÇÃO - MENORES 18 ANOS

Nos seguintes casos:
Quando se tratar de menor de 18 anos, será exigida autorização de ambos os genitores ou do responsável legal, Formulário de Autorização para Obtenção de Passaporte para Menor, salvo nos casos de cessação de incapacidade previstos em lei.
Em caso de menor sob guarda judicial de um dos genitores, não sendo possível o comparecimento do outro, ou sua autorização no Formulário de Autorização para Obtenção de Passaporte para Menor, será indispensável autorização judicial.
A autorização dos genitores, no formulário de autorização, poderá efetivar-se:
1 - pela assinatura de ambos no formulário, na presença do servidor responsável pela conferência dos documentos;
2 - comparecendo apenas um dos genitores, pela assinatura deste no formulário de autorização e: a) pela apresentação de certidão de óbito do outro genitor; b) pelo reconhecimento, por autenticidade, da firma do outro genitor no formulário de autorização; c) pela assinatura do outro genitor no formulário de autorização, transmitido via fac-símile, ou mensagem electrónica, de outra unidade do DPF ou repartição consular brasileira no exterior, conferida por servidor da unidade transmissora devidamente identificado no documento; d) pela apresentação de procuração pública específica, autorizando a emissão de passaporte para o menor, outorgada por um genitor ao outro, lavrada em repartição notarial no País ou repartição consular brasileira no exterior, com prazo de validade não superior a um ano.
3 - Não sendo possível o comparecimento de nenhum dos genitores em unidade do DPF, o formulário de autorização deverá ser substituído por: a) procuração pública específica, autorizando a emissão de passaporte para o menor, outorgada por ambos os genitores a pessoa maior, lavrada em repartição notarial no País ou repartição consular brasileira no exterior, com prazo de validade não superior a um ano; b) procuração pública específica, autorizando a emissão de passaporte para o menor, outorgada por ambos os genitores a pessoa maior, lavrada em repartição notarial estrangeira, acompanhada de tradução por tradutor juramentado e devidamente consularizada, com prazo de validade não superior a um ano; c) no caso do item anterior, o menor será representado pelo procurador que deverá comparecer à unidade do DPF, juntamente com o menor; d) os genitores, o responsável legal ou o procurador deverão comprovar a identidade mediante apresentação, em original, de quaisquer dos documentos enumerados no link "documentação necessária".

EXTRAVIO/FURTO/ROUBO/CONSERVAÇÃO

O Decreto nº 1.983, de 14 de Agosto de 1996, determina:
"Art. 2º Passaporte é o documento de identificação, de propriedade da União, exigível de todos os que pretendam realizar viagem internacional, salvo nos casos previstos em tratados, acordos e outros atos internacionais. Art. 33. É dever do titular comunicar imediatamente à autoridade expedidora mais próxima a ocorrência de perda, extravio, furto, roubo, adulteração, inutilização, destruição total ou parcial do documento de viagem, bem como sua recuperação, quando for o caso"
Nas situações acima elencadas o titular do passaporte deverá comparecer a unidade do DPF munido de documento de identidade e preencher o formulário "Comunicação de Ocorrência com Documento de Viagem".

EXIGÊNCIA DE 06 MESES

Alguns países exigem que o passaporte tenha no mínimo 06 meses de validade. Dessa forma, requeira novo passaporte antes do actual expirar, a fim de que sejam evitados problemas na Fiscalização Imigratória do país de destino.

NACIONALIDADE

O requerente nascido no estrangeiro, filho de brasileiro(a) que estava a serviço do País, tem nacionalidade brasileira e deverá apresentar, além dos documentos enumerados no link "documentação necessária", Certidão de Nascimento lavrada no Livro "E" do Cartório de Registro Civil do 1º Ofício.
O indivíduo nascido no estrangeiro, antes de 09/06/1994, filho de brasileiro(a) que não estava a serviço do País, é considerado brasileiro se foi registrado em consulado brasileiro no exterior. O requerente deverá apresentar, além dos documentos enumerados no link "documentação necessária", Certidão de Nascimento lavrada no Livro "E" do Cartório de Registro Civil do 1º Ofício.
O indivíduo nascido no estrangeiro antes de 09/06/1994, filho de brasileiro(a) que não estava a serviço do País, que não foi registrado em consulado brasileiro no exterior, poderá adquirir a nacionalidade brasileira se vier a residir no Brasil e exercer o direito de opção em processo judicial.
O indivíduo nascido no estrangeiro depois de 09/06/1994, filho de brasileiro(a) que não estava a serviço do País, poderá adquirir a nacionalidade brasileira se vier a residir no Brasil e exercer o direito de opção em processo judicial.
O requerente que se enquadre na hipótese dos dois itens anteriores deverá apresentar, além dos documentos enumerados no link "documentação necessária", Certidão de Nascimento lavrada no Livro "E" do Cartório de Registro Civil do 1º Ofício e cópia autenticada da sentença da Justiça Federal de opção pela nacionalidade brasileira.
a) Caso ainda não tenha atingido a maioridade, o requerente citado no item anterior deverá apresentar apenas o registro de nascimento lavrado no Livro "E" do Cartório de Registro Civil do 1o. Ofício, ficando dispensado da apresentação de sentença de opção até atingir a maioridade. b) No caso do parágrafo anterior, a validade do passaporte, limitada ao prazo de cinco anos, será equivalente ao tempo restante para o requerente atingir a maioridade. c) Atingida a maioridade, o requerente somente poderá obter passaporte comum brasileiro se vier a residir no Brasil e optar pela nacionalidade brasileira, devendo apresentar os documentos enumerados no link "documentação necessária". d) Para o nascido no exterior antes de 04/10/1988 que não tenha optado pela nacionalidade brasileira até os 25 anos de idade, a expedição de passaporte fica condicionada à opção, que poderá ser requerida a qualquer tempo. e) A opção de nacionalidade mencionada no parágrafo inicial e nos itens "a", "c" e "d" deverá ser pleiteada perante a Justiça Federal.

PERÍODO ELEITORAL

A apresentação de título de eleitor e comprovantes de votação será exigida do requerente que seja obrigado a se alistar e votar e, poderá ser substituída por apresentação de declaração da justiça eleitoral que ateste a quitação com as obrigações eleitorais.
A apresentação de comprovante(s) de votação ou justificativa da última eleição não supre a necessidade de apresentação de título de eleitor ou declaração da justiça eleitoral, em razão da necessidade de comprovação da Unidade da Federação de expedição.
O requerente que não tenha votado por inexistência de pleito entre a data do seu alistamento eleitoral e a data do requerimento do passaporte, fica dispensado de apresentar comprovante de votação, podendo apresentar apenas o título de eleitor ou declaração da justiça eleitoral que ateste o seu alistamento.
Dispensa-se a apresentação de título de eleitor e comprovante de votação para requerentes maiores de 70 anos.
